The plateaucrustum split from its ancestor. With the success of the shurikrustum, some chitjorns took the opportunity to grow larger to escape predation. Those which grow within patches of shurikrustum tend to survive; however as they get larger they will uproot the smaller 'crustums. The concentrated photosynthesizing patches are now located on the top of the body in order to increase their effectiveness. Individuals live for 1 year, releasing 4 spherical buds halfway through their life cycle. These buds will roll around until they can remain still enough to begin growing; more often than not they are caught in the crooks of shurikrustums, adding to their dependency on this smaller cousin.
