The plateswarmer replaced its ancestor, the plated battleswarmer. Its ancestors un-streamline shape made and heavy armor made it easy prey for predators. Its tentacles now work like their other fins except with more armored segments. Its second eye is not located on their "butt" rather than their "back" thus allowing them to see predators that are swimming behind them. They needed so many fins just to keep afloat in the water. Their photosynthetic armor protects them but is heavy. They still stay in swarms but the swarms are much slower than their un-armored relatives.
