The ramul nailfin split from its ancestor. This species formed when a group of coastal nailfins began living on Ramul Island. To help it get around on the beach, its flippers have become more muscular, its upper body has become more robust and its nails have receded to the ends of the flippers. Its tail has shortened considerably to decrease drag while on land. Its canines have moved to the front of the mouth to help spear the ramul surfaceworm and wisker gilltail and to scrap off parts of the coastpuff and creaping starflora. It has changed its diet to include the coastpuff, whisker gilltail and ramul surfaceworm. It has also re-evolved its outer ear so it can hear other members of its species while on land.
