The rockstar split from its ancestor. As its name implies, it resembles a rock without close inspection. Its rounded shape lacking in spikes makes it very sturdy. Its black color makes it difficult to distinguish from darker stones in many parts of its range, though it still stands out in regions with lighter, brown rocks. It strongly attaches itself to substrate using a suction cup-like "foot" with aid from a small amount of mucus, which gives it a limpet-like appearance. When the rockstar is disturbed, calcium surges into its foot causing actin fibers to retract, attaching it more firmly to its perch. This costs a fair amount of energy, but its disguise makes this only an occasional occurrence. It is also able to compensate with another new feature: it has regained the ability to eat.
The "flesh" of starflora is derived from an amoebic cell that became increasingly compartmentalized almost like a muscle, which is the reason that its ancestors and relatives are motile, as well as why it itself is able to retract. The exterior still has characteristics of an amoeba, including the ability to form pseudopods. The rockstar did not regain its ancestral digestive system, but derived a new one. When water washes over it from tide or rain, its skin absorbs microscopic particles with pseudopods shot out from the outside cellular membranes. This allows it to obtain just enough energy to make its defensive strategy sustainable. This evolved after its defense did, in order to allow it to defend itself more often than it could on sugar alone.
Similar to its ancestor, the rockstar is immobile and releases airborn spores from a tiny pore in its center to reproduce. Its airborne nature allows it to island hop throughout the Ramul-Steiner region. It can grow in fairly dry environments due to its flesh being sheltered by its shell, and it is tolerant of both saltwater and freshwater.
