The scrubland quhft split from its ancestor, the quhft. It has doubled in size and how lives in more arid regions. Like its ancestor it has two main groups of leaves, the upper tuft which has many layers of leaves and is outer leaves that hang similar to an Earth palm tree. When the outer leaves die, they hang down creating a "skirt" around the trunk of the tree. An individual can live up to 50 years. Individuals take a week to germinate. After 2 years the first layer of leaves begins serving a reproductive purpose, producing fruit annually at the end of the wetter months. The fruit are pink in color and have a sweet sugary taste similar to bubblegum.
