The shieldscooter split from its ancestor. Its main adaptation is the development of a shield which emerged from a genetic mutation. Its shield can defend against predators. However, due to this mutation it not longer uses electricity to defend itself. It uses the newly evolved shield to detect vibrations coming from the external environment. Like its ancestor, shieldscooter spots contain chloroplasts used for photosynthesis.
