The soilworm split from its ancestor, the bladeworm, and changed its diet to be a detritivore. With so many things rotting around, there was more than enough room for another detritivore in the ecosystem. They spend most of their time underground. They still can see with their eyes but close them when underground. Their spines have gotten smaller so it can dig through the soil easier. Its breathing holes in its head have developed a way to filter out dirt and allow oxygen to get in so it can breathe underground. It uses its tongue to lick up rotting organic matter and then will poop out rich soil which help enrich the soil.
