Ancestor:Descendants:

The soma tailswimmer split from its ancestor, the river tailhopper and adapted to a fully aquatic life style. It has migrated to Soma Tropical Sea and changed its diet to living prey rather than carrion, it has grown to twice its ancestor's size and is one of the top predators of Soma Tropical Sea, rivaled only by the belligerent nailfin. To protect itself from the Belligerent Nailfin its armor plates grew harder and stronger, they are also slightly more segmented to help it move through the water more easily.

Two other adaptations that have arisen are the streamlining of the once bulky tail, and the fusing of its frontal limbs to form one pair of fins. It no longer lays its eggs in burrows as it has lost the ability to dig, it will now place the eggs just outside of the water, as their young can not breathe in water at the moment they leave the egg, but they will quickly head to the water once they have hatched, they will use the low tide to help them get into the water more easily.
