The spiked woodenberry split from its ancestor. Its wooden base has widened and now has long sharp thorns sticking out to defend from herbivores. The soft base of its berry cluster now fills with starch, it has grown three prongs where the starch is concentrated most. This acts as a fleshy bait that attracts fauna either by its bright red pattern or a pleasant scent that it releases, when the bait is torn off and eaten the entire berry cluster is stuck to the fauna by long sharp hairs that are dug into the flesh and hooked at the end, the berries themselves are also hooked. As the victim struggles to rub off the irritant it spreads the berries to new areas.
