The spiralmound split from their ancestor and moved into the deep sea. There they found an abundant food source, allowing them to grow ten times larger than their ancestor. They now grow int a mound over pores in the vents. The older cells in the center of the colony will break off into individual swimmer cells that will go their own way looking for a new source to grow on and start their own colony. The swimmer cell navigates using a chemo-sensitive protrusion that grows as they matures.
