While the stalagmite clinger adapted to hanging onto stalagmites near clusters of caveberries, the stalagmite claw perfected it. The stalagmite claw replaced its ancestor and is now the apex predator in their habitat. The shells on their ancestors back has evolved into spikes giving the stalagmite claw more flexibility. Their eyes are protected with a shell sitting on top of its forehead and are now, together with its ears, perfectly evolved to a life in darkness. They cling to rock walls, just like their ancestor, waiting for anything to come within range. It then jumps from the rock it clang to and lands with its back onto the prey, piercing it with its many spikes. As the stalagmite claw lands on its prey its flexible body twists itself around the helpless animal and lungs the huge spike on top if its tail into the victim's body. The weight of the stalagmite claw alone is usually enough to bring down its prey, making it a lot easier to go for the kill straight away, rather than fighting with the prey.The teeth of the stalagmite claw are not used to chew so in order to eat the stalagmite claw will bite hard down on whatever animal it has caught and shake its head hard left and right, tearing the flesh apart, unless the animal is small enough to be swallowed whole that is.
