Ancestor:Descendants:

The swish starflora has replaced its ancestor. Due to its range of food, it has grown bigger still. It now has so much energy, it has developed basic hinges at the base of its leaves. It can move them backwards and forwards, giving it slow but controlled movement, enabling it to gather more balgae quicker. It has evolved a more efficient digestive system. It now stores its waste in its gut which has elastic walls. Its body can balloon to twice its size. The point of this is that eventually, it will suddenly contract its gut, forcing the waste out at great speed and propelling the swish starflora through the water to new areas of the river where there will be more food.

It has also evolved new behavior. To make the most of its two food sources, throughout the day, the swish starflora will sit on the river's surface absorbing as much sun as it can. By night, it descends to the rivers depths and gathers microbes. By putting all of its time into one food source then the other, it receives more energy.

Its reproduction has also improved. Each swish starflora now contains parts of two sexes. On a night when there is a lot of moonlight, each swish starflora will travel to the middle of the river in mass and release spores of both sex. As they all fall through the water, they mix and if one from each sex, they fuse and start to develop. This is increasing variation.
