The thorny hedgelog split from its ancestor, the toxplage. Like its ancestor some of its fruits are highly acidic and help dissolve the rocks allowing for their roots to spread. Their leaves have evolved into thorny needles. This helps not only protect them from herbivores but also helps them retain water. Their bright red flowers attract hopping ketters, which it has a symbiotic relationship with.
