The turretshrom split from its ancestor, the islandshroom. It has grown bigger and like its ancestor has bright pigments. These colors trick fauna that may feed upon it that its poisonous, even though it is not. It has an even thicker trunk and its spores are on a separate part from the cap. When fauna brushes up against them it knocks them down. If eaten they can usually survive the digestion process. The cap if eaten can grow back as long as the trunk is intact.
