Splitting from its ancestor, the viridimaw lyngbakr has taken to the open oceans of Sagan IV and flourished. While smaller than its larger cousin, the umbrascale lyngbakr, it is still an impressive creature in terms of its own size and length. Few predators will dare to take on an adult viridimaw lyngbakr, instead preferring to go after their young or the old and sickly. Living in pods of up to 20 members helps to protect them from this, however. These pods are typically female only, with the only males being adolescents. Adult males are individuals who seek out the female-dominated pods in order to mate. Once they have, they are usually chased out, and thus they take no part in raising the young.
It is not uncommon for various types of encrusting lifeforms, such as several species of marbleflora, to grow along their sides.
