Ancestor:Descendants:

The wetland pipent split from chunky pipents that migrated to the Yokto Marsh and Yokto River. There they re-adapted to a semi-amphibious lifestyle roaming around the marsh area and swimming as a faster way to get around. Like its ancestor it is well adapted to the life of a herbivore, using its large wooden front teeth to chew on varied soft flora as well as using its front legs to lean forward on plants while it feeds on them. Its feet also became wider for better grip on the marsh soil and better swimming. It still has a fatty layer in order to survive the northern cold, most of which is stored in its head and back. Its heel finger evolved into a sharp powerful back spike, which it uses to rip apart fan rootstalks its legs get entangled with. It also grew another such smaller spike in its front legs from one of its fingers. Their tail is wider at the tip for better swimming. They still have their known pipe, which they use for breathing while they swim.

They maintained their ancestor's intelligence and social behavior including their known laughter. Though it is not as cold in the marsh as in the biomes their ancestors once lived in they still often cluster together when it gets colder and sometimes just to build up social connections.
