Ancestor:Descendants:

The big-mouthed nailfin has replaced it's ancestor in the LadyM Ocean (Sunlight Zone) and the LadyM Ocean (Twilight Zone); thus leaving it's ancestor to inhabit the coasts. The most obvious evolutionary differences are the teeth, tail, and nailfins. The structure of the teeth and jaws has changed drastically to allow for more breeding success. The big-mouthed nailfin has only four teeth, two large ones on top and two large ones on the bottom. Its ancestor has to lose its teeth when giving birth but, the big-mouthed nailfin no longer needs to as it has less teeth than its ancestor and its jaw is able to dislocate similar to an Earth snake to allow easier and quicker passage of the babies. The tail has also changed drastically splitting and flattening to become more like a paddle and propel the creature further and faster. The separate nails of the fins have also combined into one hard nail.

These creatures live and hunt in small familial groups. Mating occurs between other families when sexually mature members of groups come in contact with each other. Big-mouthed nailfins no longer return to land.
