The cryocorpia specialized from the cryobowls. As the megascooters took their claim over the island of Justin, their inland colonies became dependent on the cyobowls as a safe place to spawn their young. They had a preference for larger cryobowls, as they allowed multiple mating pairs to spawn their young at once. This voluntary selection helped propagate larger and larger cryobowls on the island. At the same time, a chance mutation caused some cryobowls to divide their bowls as they grow. This mutation was capitalized by the megascooters, since it allowed more mating pairs to spawn simultaneously without having to find different 'bowls. The result is the species seen today. With the influx of many amphibious species to the island, the cryocorpiae have become a welcomed oasis in an otherwise dry, unforgiving landscape.
Individuals live for 10 years. A newly germinated cryocorpia will divide its central bowl into quarters, developing in this way for 5 years. Some individuals will continue dividing their bowls after this starting division, though these incidental "dips" don't appear until halfway through their growth, and so do not grow as tall as the central bowls. Other than these two changes, it is the same as its ancestor.
