The darwin basilliphyta split from its ancestor, the marine basilliphyta. It has moved to Darwin Polar Beach where it lives on the ground. Like its ancestor, the darwin basilliphyta lives in groups, which can reach up to ten meters wide. This results from the group-forming nature of its ancestor. Due to the only partly availability of water, it can't form large plumes, so it forms a carpet which can grow up to ten meters wide, but only a few centimeters thick.
