Ancestor:Descendants:

The desert shellwalker split from its ancestor. In further search for food some rustworms migrated east due to competition and adapted to the harsh life in the desert. The desert shellwalker's front "flippers" evolved clippers and now cut through the lightberries that grow in the desert, the clippers are crude and the desert shellwalker must shake the lightberry in order to get the leaves to fall so it can feed on it properly. During this feeding process the leaves of the lightberry get so damaged that some die because they no longer can photosynthesize, however, in the feeding process the lightberry's berries will be shaken loose so that they can grow somewhere else. The desert shellwalker can also feed on the vandriswoops that grow in the desert. The shells on the desert shellwalker's back serve no defensive purpose but are vital to the desert shellwalker's survival, as the harsh desert provide little water the desert shellwalker has fat reserves stored under it's shell, the shell also provide shade from the sun to protect it's sensitive skin. Like its ancestor it has multiple nostrils on top of its head but no eyes, so it must rely on its sense of smell to find food.
