The rustworm split from its ancestor and adapted to life on land. As no herbivore inhabited clayren beach, the flora there grew rapidly in numbers which resulted in a large amount of dead flora lying in the water's edge; some of this dead flora drifted in turn into the sea due to the tide. Some rusty flat sandworm learned to feed on these dead plants as additional nourishment, and over time some of these sandworms adapted to live on the beach feeding on the dead flora and the fauna that had washed up on the beach; thus the rustworm evolved.
The rustworm developed many small legs in order to walk; also, as an additional help for this the front flippers became stronger in order to drag the body across the sand. The rustworm feeds on the flora on the beach which is rich with iron; it uses this iron to enforce its legs better to support its weight. Each leg has an iron shell around it with only one joint which is attached to the body. The worm has a lot of nostrils placed on top of its head, since it's still blind, and needs to rely on its sense of smell in order to attain food.
