Ancestor:Descendants:

The fluketail split from its ancestor. When some wetland pipents ventured out into the Darkov Temperate Coast, when they did, they found a place where there was plenty of food and few predators. However, it had to adapt to its environment. One way it adapted was by developing an immune system to the xidhloty's poison. Since it lives in deeper waters than its ancestor, it had to adapt becoming more aquatic. The adaptations that helped included having a slimmer body, evolving its trademark tail-fluke, and having prehensile lips on its "butt-snorkel" , which have helped swim faster and be able to dive much longer. On its front legs, it has lost all, but four toes; though on its back legs, its ancestor's tiny, wooden spur has become much larger and can be used for combat with each other and to defend against predators. However, they prefer not to fight and instead live in herds of up to 8-12 members that look out for each other. It maintains their ancestor's intelligence and social behavior including its known laughter.
