The golden earback has replaced it ancestor the threshhold earback. Now that the glacial ice has receded and opened up Rabid Sandstone Caves, the earbacks could return to the surface. They have regained much of their pigment, but not their eyes. They depend upon their other senses such as hearing, smell and touch. Like their ancestors, their sense of hearing is very acute and the bristles on their tails and foot pads can detect the smallest vibrations. Their large nostrils can track down the scent of prey who rarely move such as the hanging frabooball.
While those that live in the cave live much like their ancestors did, the ones on the surface hunt down similar surface prey such as the common fraboo. They could have spread farther, but they still had to lay their frog-like eggs in the pools of water in Rabid Sandstone Caves. Thus their offspring feed on the cave fauna and then leave the caves once they have reached adulthood. They are less social than their ancestors, but are still very opportunistic. So much so that their diversity in diet and ability to leave the cave for more food has caused them to also replace their relatives the aquatic earback and indolent earback.
