The threshhold earback split from its ancestor. After the cave-in of the Rabid Sandstone Caves was removed, some indolent earbacks began living nearer to the cave entrance. When outside species began migrating into the caves, those earbacks took advantage of the new food source; they have returned to their distant ancestor's opportunistic lifestyle and eat the young of most of the larger creatures of the cave. They have increased in size and have stronger jaws. Their ears are slightly improved; the biggest adaptation is they have more muscles at the base for rotation. A new adaption is a bundling of nerve cells on the sole of the earback's feet; this helps detect vibrations from movement, however it is very weak. They have remained social, which helps protect them from potential predators as well as taking down prey. Since they spend much more time in sunlight, some of their pigment has returned.
