The gray muckraker replaced its ancestor, the the sandy muckraker. Due to the change of environment during the ice age the sandy muckraker found itself in gray colored sand rather than yellow. Through natural section those born with duller yellow were picked off less until eventually no more yellow colored muckrakers were left and gray colored ones thrived. In addition the red colored rusty muckraker got picked off and even got out completed by the gray muckraker.
Other than the color change it lives much like it ancestor. However it has some new adaptions such as bristles on its front mandibles to help brush food into its mouth better. It has a rounder more stout shape to deal with the color of the polar waters and the more dome shape helps strengthen the shell from predators trying to break it open.
