Ancestor:Descendants:

The left-right scalucker's mouth is oriented either to the left or to the right. This helps them scrape off scales from their targets. Those with mouths oriented to the right scrape off scales from the left side of a target, and those with mouths oriented to the left scrape off scales from the right side of the target. They acquire their food by swimming towards a target's side from behind, scraping off a scale or part of a scale, and then swimming off.

It feeds on many organisms (Diamond Pumpgill, Slenderscooter, Onamor, Flat Swarmer, Globe Gilltail, Rusty Seaswimmer, Speckled Pumpgill, Marine Gilltail, Bloodfin Scylarian, Spotted Shocker, Cromocanth, Strainerbeak, Wolley), but in some environments it is found with greater frequency on Diamond Pumpgills. It is most common in coastal areas.

The single eye of their ancestors has been duplicated. However, they are not wired equally. The dominant eye is on the same side the mouth is oriented towards. The less dominant eye cannot register distance or detail as well, and its signals to the brain are slightly slower.
