Splitting from its ancestor, the mortucomed has adapted to a life of being a scavenger. Using its many sharp wooden teeth it tears apart the flesh of carcasses and then sucks up the pieces. The mortucomed has grown longer and has its tentacles moved closer together. It can now sway its tentacles left to right to move, though this is rarely used. A mutation has also led to there a small bioluminescent bulb at the end of each tentacle. Because of the lack of major predators in the trench area, they have tripled in size from deep-sea gigantification.
The mortucomed have spread out of the Otter Vents, and populate the trench areas, feeding on any corpses they can find. They also prowl the Abyss Floor, but only near the trench. If they are lucky, they will find a lyngbakr corpse that hasn't been eaten by a gillipede. In case there are no corpses to be found, mortucomeds can feed off of the detritus and other microscopic creatures. Like their ancestor, the mortucomed can still weakly photosynthesize using some of the light produced by its bioluminescent sack.
