The nuh-hum split from it's ancestor and moved to the shallows of Ovi Lake and the rivers. It is very similar to its ancestor, except it has lost one of it's slits. It does not make sounds in an audible range while underwater due to the different properties of water and air. If the water level drops enough for them to be out of the water, they make a sound similar to a piccolo. The leaves still have medicinal properties, but it has a horribly bitter taste. The nuh-hum has became slightly larger in size due to more nutrients. Its spores are now distributed in the water at the top of the tall stalk.
