The rust mold split from it's ancestor and adapted to a new life cycle. They start out life as individual diploid cells, feeding on the minerals in the soil. If they find a suitable location, they will replicate, forming a orange, spongy plasmoidal structure and release spores. These spores must land on a volcanic voltflora in order to progress. When they find one, the haploid cells work their way to the reproductive structures and are incorporated into the seeds, forming iron coated spherical structures about 2 mm wide each. When the seeds are shot and land elsewhere, the spheres breakdown, releasing thousands of newly formed diploid cells.
