The slartisnapper split from its ancestor and took to the Slarti Salt Flats and Slarti Salt Lake. It shrunk to half its ancestor's size, which enables its body to retain more moisture in its body while hunting in the Flats.
Its yearly cycle is now separated into two periods. The warm months see it as a lake-side carnivore, fishing with its enormous beak the ocean tristage and the swamp douostage which are abundant in the area. The colder part of the year sees it flying above the Slarti Salt Flats, hunting if it may the fast moving slarti cloudswarmer and the scavenging thermoworms it can spot.
