The stout lamp-palm replaced its ancestor, the cave lamp-palm. With so many other flora fighting for room at the cave opening it left the cave altogether and now lives in the very barren rainforest. However due to lack of flora the ground had very little nutrients. It now had to reduce its size in half just to survive.
Like its ancestor, the glowing slime, that was once only poison, is only excreted when the lamp-palm needs to reproduce and is releasing pollen. The light on the underside of the umbrella-leafs attract fauna to touch the plant and thus spread its sticky pollen.
