The swamplent split from its ancestor, the scaleback ketter. It has moved to Slarti Slat Marsh where it has become a generalist. They will eat just about anything it can digest. Thus species like the painted leafhorn are not in their diet because of their poison.
They have more body fat to keep them buoyant in the water when swimming. Their webbed feet also help them move across the water. Their scales have become larger and nearly cover their entire bodies. This helps the absorb more sunlight than their ancestor's could.
Due to the mud of the salt marsh they no longer dig burrows. However they will build ground nests out of local flora such as the bent fungibane and colonialball. When the give birth they have 2-3 babies. When attracting a mate they will will make tooting sounds from their butt-nostril. Their butt-nostrils face upwards to keep water from getting in them when swimming. They can also close their butt-nostril if they go under water.
