The thick basilliphyta replaced its ancestor, the brown basilliphyta. Like its ancestor it can photosynthesize. It contains fucoxanthin, which causes it to appear a brownish-green color. It thrives in stagnant water and requires very little oxygen to survive. To protect it from cytovores it has developed a thick cell wall.
