The towering qupe tree split from its ancestor, the qupe tree. They have nearly doubled in height due to competition for sunlight. Some of the rubbery leaves near the fruiting area have evolved to catch water to further attract fauna to come to the fruits, increasing chances of spreading the seeds. They dot the landscape, noticeably towering over surrounding flora in the rainforest.
