Gilltailus vicious
Ancestor:Descendants:

The vicious gilltail replaced their ancestor the sandhopper. With so many other species around it had to become more aggressive just to survive. It has become a full carnivore and will hunt in small schools. They are not very social but in staying in numbers helps them not get eaten themselves.

The secret to their success is their improved breathing. With multi-chambers pumps it allows for highly oxygenated water to enter their blood. This allows them to be more active. Their dark coloration also heat them fast from the sun, thus keeping their body warmer than other gilltails.

Their primary prey are other gilltails so they have developed a serrated beak that can hold on to the slippery gilltails. When resting they will hide mostly near black marine flora such as the marine droopgea, bubble droopgea or buoygea. Thanks to their breathing pumps they can stay still without suffocating.
