Ancestor:Descendants:

The zuphinki evolved from and replaced the puffkin on Huggs Island. The puffkin relied on creatures like the burrowing pakahe to eat its gourd and puke out the seeds in another location, but only had one gourd at a time. This limited the spread of the puffkin, and caused creatures to eat the actual plant when no gourd was available. The zuphinki developed multiple smaller gourds to keep herbivores from bothering with the tougher, less sweet leaves and stalk. It can have anywhere between three and seven separate gourds. The gourds themselves are not as tough as the gourd of its ancestor to keep potential consumers from losing interest. The stalks that the gourds grow on have become thicker and tougher to keep the gourds from touching the ground as that will cause the softer gourds to become squishy and less appetizing.
