Ancestor:Descendants:

The kangatwail evolved from the kangashrew. Unlike its ancestor, it has developed a split tail, which acts as a whip to help defend itself from predators. It has developed a bigger variety in food including nidbin plants and stickyballs. Another important adaptation is that its twin-pouch has modified into a triple-pouch, which can hold its three babies. The kangatwail has also become slightly more light-weight than its ancestor. An unusual evolution it went through is that the top set of its eyes are more used to sunlight than the other four. This helps them find their way when the sun rises.

They still have sexual dimorphism like their ancestors, though now the only physical difference is the color. However, the male is still more aggressive than the female. Despite these adaptations, it has not replaced its ancestor. Though they aren't always in competition with each other due to the kangatwail's varied diet.
