The Ring Balgae replaced its ancestor, the Dozenbalgae. Its 12 cells have split into 2 and made a long ring of 24 cells. Having double the amount of cells means it can absorb twice the amount of sunlight that it could before. They still occupy the Russ River and some portions of the water are so full of Ring Balgae it looks like black dust clouds suspended in the river.
