The wavescooper replaced its ancestor, the scoopswarmer. It has doubled in size and no longer can fly. However it can propel itself with its back wings on the surface of the water. Its front wings have turned into air filled supports which allow it to float on the surface. Under its chin are 2 air filled bubbles which complete the tripod scoop shape. Its back tailfins have merged into a single stabilizer fin. This also helps it turn when in motion thus acting like a rudder. They have developed an eyelid to protect their eye from drying out or any splashing that might occur during feeding. Their young cannot catch prey when born so they tag along with adults and snatch up any prey which fall out of their scoop mouths. They make sure to keep their distance in order not to be accidentally eaten by the adults.
