The barkback has split from its ancestor, the cragagon. It now has specialized in eating flora, especially the outer bark of crystal flora. Its huge wooden teeth help it gnaw on the hard photosynthetic outer layer of crystal flora.
They are good climbers and can get to the photosynthetic parts of even the very tall tribranch grovecrystals. Their back spines have developed into scale-like bark on their backs. This helps protect them from predators, while still allowing them to have some agility. its tail is even longer to help balance it with its more arboreal lifestyle.
To avoid predators they live in hollowed out crystal flora trees and raise their young inside. They have 3 to 4 babies each year. Both parents care for their young and will bring them food. However, after their offspring grow up they will go their separate ways and find a new mate next mating season.
