Ancestor:Descendants:

The scrub barkback split from its ancestor, the barkback. Like its ancestor it specializes in eating crystal flora, however it is quite abundant in Darwin. Its huge wooden teeth-beak help it gnaw on the hard photosynthetic outer layer of crystal flora. They are good climbers and can get to the photosynthetic parts of even the very tall crystal flora. Most of their bodies are covered in scale-like bark which help both insulate and protect them. Their long tail is prehensile and can hold onto branches when climbing. They try to keep an arboreal lifestyle, but due to sparse patches in the scrublands they must come down to the ground sometimes.

To avoid predators they live in hollowed out crystal flora trees and raise their young inside. They have 3 to 4 babies each year. Both parents care for their young and will bring them food. However, after their offspring grow up they will go their separate ways and find a new mate next mating season.
