The crimson spelunkhoe has split from its ancestor and spread throughout the Barlowe region. Several adaptions have been evolved, such as an extra transparent eyelid that protects their eyes from scratches and irritants, as well as an internalized ear that also offers protection from both damage and impairment from dirt. Their "solar panels" have become nearly nonexistent, not very necessary due to their underground lifestyle. Their spade-like claws are reinforced with powerful muscles which make digging an easy task for them. Finally, their beak has become both stronger and better adapted to aiding in digging.
Living underground in vast complexes of tunnels, they venture near the surface in order to feed on roots of the various flora, as well as the flora themselves should they be able to pull them underground. They will, however, leave the relative safety of their homes for the surface in order to mate. During this time, which coincides with the full moon, great swarms of crimson spelunkhoes crawl across the surface, the males honking to attract females and then aggressively defending them. As dawn sets in, they males join their mates and return to their colonies, spreading their genetics throughout Barlowe.
