Ancestor:Descendants:

The pakahe split from its ancestor, the sagworm catcher. It still eats worms but has expanded its diet to leaves of the local flora. Due to this largely herbivorous lifestyle it no longer flies and has a much bigger gut to digest the floral matter. Its beak has become stronger to grind up leaves, but it will also consume stones to help grid up its food. Its wings are much shorter and are no longer used for flying but are used for absorbing sunlight via photosynthesis. Its legs have grown longer again and are used to walk on. Its tail fins and head are brightly colored and are used for attracting mates.
