Ancestor:Descendants:

The quilled nailfin split from its ancestor. In order to adapt to the colder climates of the Artir Polar Beach and Artir Polar Coast, it became larger than its ancestor and they live in large groups that consist of 6-14 members. The quilled nailfin gets its name due to the newly evolved wooden quills on its back; these are used to protect themselves from predators like the azularian. Its belly is now blue, which helps it keep out of sight from predators swimming below. Another evolution that keeps them safe from predators is that its upper eyes have moved to the top, while the lower eyes now look from behind. The quilled nailfin's "pseudo-beak" has become stronger and more jagged, which helps it eat thornshells and bite off chunks of chunky plyent and crestgrove. The quilled nailfin has evolved a mild sexual dimorphism, which is that the males have a green sail and the females have a gray sail. Other than these changes, it is quite similar to its ancestor.
