Ancestor:Descendants:

Splitting from its ancestor, speartongue has begun along the path of becoming a vicious predator thanks to the evolution of a unique hunting tool. Upon opening its mouth, a purple "tongue", which in reality is a modified portion of its lower jaw capable of dislocating itself, darts out. Stabbing through through potential prey, they are then dragging back into its open maw where it will be stung by numerous nematocysts and grounded up before being digested.

Should it however latch onto something too large or dangerous, the "tongue" is capable of snapping off, allowing the speartongue to escape. After a week it will have regrown, and until then it relies on more traditional hunting methods.

Faster than its ancestor thanks to its elongated, streamlined body, it mates every 3 months and will then produce hundreds of spores over the course of several weeks. Two individuals will become entwined with on another, during which they will pass genetic material between themselves. Despite being solitary predators, they are capable of taking down fauna more than twice their size.
