The golden guardian split from its ancestor, the mainland penitoflora coli. It lives only in the Huggs Tropical Rainforest, where it originated. Golden guardian was formed when a genetic mutation caused two mainland penitoflora coli cells to not completely fuse. Within the same genetic mutation, the gene which separated pathogen from larger cell was lost. The result is the golden guardian, a highly 'infectious' organism that survives mostly outside, feeding on the smaller organisms. However, it often ends up on other creatures, at which point, it finds a way inside.
Soon, great amounts of the golden guardian are then within the creature, spreading throughout it. They find the creature's digestive system, and set up shop, mass reproducing. They then begin chowing down on the creature's feces, and any pathogens or pathogen-like creatures. It eventually spreads even to the mouth, if the creature has one. Once there, they immediately force out any strains of plaque. With the plaque strain gone, they begin eating pre-chewed food as well. Occasionally, they also make their way into other parts of the body, cracking down on harmful bacteria they find. As they exist mostly within the digestive system, feces from 'infected' creatures are covered in them, giving it a yellowish hue.
It is so beneficial, that creatures may even wilfully consume a small amount of feces with a yellowish hue simply to get the golden guardian into its system.
