Ancestor:Descendants:

The symbioship numballs replaced their ancestors the hitchhiker hydroglobes. With the diamiboard gone it had to adapt to the symbioship diaminet's new lifestyle. It it lives under the symbioship superorganism it was no longer exposed to light so it adapted to absorb what the symbioship diaminet ate. Since the symbioship diaminet developed a strong digestive enzyme it had to evolve an immunity to it. And to help it keep prey in the nets its developed a parlaying chemical to stop the prey from wriggling and breaking the gets it lives on.

If they over grow the symbioship diaminets cannot absorb food so nets are constantly dying and regrowing. The symbioship hydroglobes sometimes get stick onto prey that swims near the nets so they become both sleepy and paralyzed.
