The Martykian Period. This age lasted 12.5 million years. Halfway through this age, the planet is hit with a gamma ray burst from a far off star going supernova, and changing sagan 4 forever.

Disaster (Gamma Ray Burst)
 A Supernova explosion far away, struck Sagan 4 in its deadly beam. 
 This killed off much of the life on the planet's surface. 
 However some deep in the sea and underground survived. 
 This event has ended one chapter in the planet's history and opened
 up another for even more exotic species to evolve.
